if you use opentopomap and download any region in germany, the maps come with contour lines. opentopomap has some german topos, some not. the ones with contour lines are free, for those without contours you have to buy them.

the new nav app navigation features on 6 series watches are one of the most exciting new improvements. it’s a new map, waypoints, schedules and trip planning ui. the osm maps include navigation features like pois, routes, waypoints, etc.

i think the online osm maps are better for a couple of reasons: (1) any routing problem you might have while online is solved; (2) you can download maps and use them offline, which can be helpful in many situations. with that said, these maps come with the navigation features you would expect. for example, the maps have pois, routes, waypoints, etc.

i use the osm maps on my fenix 6 pro as opposed to my 6 series unit, mostly because of the ability to download them offline. its like a desktop browser for maps. i have 50ish of the europe maps downloaded already, but most are very specific to the cities i frequent.

but, i was looking at the list of what is available and it seems that most of the european countries are included, with the exception of poland. i downloaded the ones for austria and slovenia, but i only found one for croatia. i was going to give them a try in hopes of adding them to my watch, but i wondered about the possibility of it being blocked, since i live in the u.s.

i also need to remove the topo overlay, which i had enabled, since it was installed by the maps that came with my watch. now i have to open up the maps i just downloaded and go through the osm process.

i just bought a new garmin unit and all the maps and routes are working fine except for the adriatic sea map. i cannot get the option to route from a starting point to destination. i get the map but no option to route. the only route option i can get is navigating to a point on the map. any help would be appreciated.
i’m using the fenix 3 and the latest software update. when i try to load the route maps i get a message saying “you need to install map to route on garmins”. it’s not that i haven’t installed the maps. i have them installed and i can see them when i go into “maps” and “route”. the route option is just not showing up and i’m not sure why. i’ve tried several times and always get the same message.

choice 2 mapid: 6845 you can download here. here is a screen shot of the page: i dont know which file to download (there are 3). you will need to try each one as the one you download may be corrupt. usually downloading the “first” version works but sometimes you will have to download a different one to get the file to load.
choice 3 mapid: 7672 i don’t know which map to download. i have seen the one that was labeled on the sd card as mapid 7672 and have also seen a second version on the sd card (also labeled 7672) and i don’t know which one to get. you can try both if you like but it might be easier to download the one that was labeled on the sd card and see if that works. the version that is labeled on the sd card might be corrupt or have a different file size so you might have to try downloading both versions.
