teamspeak 3 is an effective voice chat solution for you to use when you are playing video games. its most widely used for counter strike: global offensive. this is my personal opinion, but i think its better to use teamspeak 3 as a replacement for skype. skype is great for casual conversations, but teamspeak 3 allows you to have a low latency voice chat.
though i don’t use it regularly, i know people that are very happy with teamspeak. it is really simple to set up, plus it supports lots of clients and languages. to install teamspeak 3, you just need to download the.tar.gz file and run the setup script. the setup script tells you what to do after you run it. one thing i love about teamspeak is that you don’t need to be a programmer. just open up your terminal and follow the instructions.
before you can install teamspeak 3 you’ll first need to configure it with your mysql database. once you have the databases configured, the final step is to install the teamspeak 3 client. so how do you install a client for teamspeak 3? i’ll show you how to install the client here.
teamspeak 3 uses a central server to allow many people to chat at the same time. the server connects to the database and other clients. the teamspeak 3 clients connect to the server on a local network. once the server connects to the database, it is ready to start receiving and sending messages to all the teamspeak 3 clients on your network.
the teamspeak 3 clients are very easy to set up. you simply run the setup script and it will automatically start the appropriate clients for you. when you run the setup script, you’ll see a screen like this. this screen has a lot of information. so let’s look at that screen in detail.
you can leave the username and password blank. the username is the one you use to log into the mysql database, and the password is the password you use for the mysql database. finally, you need to specify a password for the mysql user. i’m going to make the password “ts3server”. now, it’s time to run the setup script. when you run the setup script, you’ll see a screen like this. now that we have set up the database, it’s time to install the teamspeak 3 client.
the latest version of the teamspeak 3 server is available for linux on our download page.we recommend you to install it in your home directory in order to avoid conflicts with other users. afterwards, you need to move the server and database files to the /opt directory and change the permissions of the server files. this way you can use the teamspeak 3 server without any configuration on your own.installation create a new user called teamspeak3 on your linux system and set the password to something that you do not mind losing.install the server from the teamspeak 3 server installer. the installer should ask you for the host name. fill in the following:localhost for exampleteamspeak 3 is a heavy server and therefore it needs a lot of ram. therefore it will be moved to the new file system. if you want to change this you can set the server.ram parameter in your server.properties file to something else (e.g. 512m). the default value is 1g. you can easily change this with the following command:sudo mv /opt/teamspeak3-serverlinux-amd64/data/teamspeak3/server.properties /opt/teamspeak3-serverlinux-amd64/data/teamspeak3/server.properties.old sudo cp /opt/teamspeak3-serverlinux-amd64/data/teamspeak3/server.default /opt/teamspeak3-serverlinux-amd64/data/teamspeak3/server.propertiesnow you can start the teamspeak 3 server with the following command:sudo./teamspeak3serverstartscript.sh startthe server will now start and ask you to enter a new password. this password is the one you will use to login to the teamspeak 3 server when you start the server for the first time.now you can login to the teamspeak 3 server with the new password and start the server for the first time. in order to change the password enter the following command:sudo.sh configchange the password for the teamspeak 3 server on your linux system.remember to start the server again afterwards. if you want to use the server with a different port for example, you have to configure it in your server.properties file. now you should be able to start the teamspeak 3 server with the following command:sudo.sh startstop the teamspeak 3 server with the following command:sudo.sh stopthe teamspeak 3 server will now shutdown. to start it again open the /opt/teamspeak3-serverlinux-amd64/data/teamspeak3/server.properties file and change the server.port parameter to your desired port. now you can start the teamspeak 3 server with the following command:sudo.sh start
