oh, look at you. an entry about medals of honor on the blog that doesn’t mention the games released in the last four years. what is that, a character flaw? a good sign? maybe a little bit of both? maybe it’s just an excuse to link to my video ? hmm. i haven’t seen it yet, so i’ll have to watch and see.

so, i played a bit of medal of honor (2010) yesterday. i didn’t get very far, but i thought i’d share my experiences. this won’t be a review per se, merely a collection of notes taken during my play session.

i played the game on the xbox 360 and pc. as i said in my first proper impressions video , it plays a lot like a class of the modern warfare series of games. however, it lacks the pop-culture references of the modern warfare series. the humour provided by cjs, and the character interactions of the aforementioned games, are absent. where they were replaced by what i think is a truly original and successful new take on the world’s favourite video game clichés.

the game is exceptionally beautiful. the landscapes look amazing, and the character models move smoothly and efficiently. dialogue is delivered with aplomb, and humour is provided by what are essentially press-releases for characters. i am reminded of the most successful action movies of the last few years; the dark knight and transformers: revenge of the fallen are probably the best examples i can think of.

weapon selection for the squad is done in the conventional manner, with each character being able to carry up to three different sub-types of primary weapon. the primary weapons can be switched on the fly as the player moves through a level. the secondary weapons can also be switched as the player moves through a level, and on certain missions the player is accompanied by an assault rifleman to carry extra weapons.
