kevin smith’s movies have been an absolute delight to me as well as his family; they got me through many long winter nights, and i’ve been eagerly awaiting his next effort. and after careful consideration, i have decided that the best place to start our countdown would be with puke! my only real complaint about this movie was that it wasn’t longer. that said, this film was well worth the wait and completely worth the time and money.

so obviously kevin smith is a comic and a writer, and pick holders really brings that to life. at times he can be on the edge of being too hilarious with his odd, quirky humor, but somehow he always keeps it just on the right side of that line. still, i was delighted with the character he created, damon pope. he’s pretty much the most badass character in this movie, and watching him bounce around the hallways of macon g’s was an absolute joy. his favorite place to stay was a coffin, obviously, but also he’s done a lot of interesting things in his life, including moving to palm springs, riding his motorcycle to work, and even using his police officer skills to get some fast cash. it’s a real blast to see smith giving such attention to every detail, which is apparent in everything from the scene where smith delivers pizza in town to get him out of the situation, to the rj adams-inspired ping-pong ball machine. a true master is always at work in all of smith’s films, and this is no exception.

at times, smith’s extreme sense of humor can go overboard. i’m fine with that, but sometimes it feels like he’s killing his characters in the name of comedy. the part of this that bothered me was the scene where all of the characters are watching sex on tv, and smith has to have some sort of breaking news story about a shooting. naturally, having to watch people have sex is hilarious, but having to watch all of that devolve into disgusting bodily functions was quite gross. it was amusing to see the characters being disgusted in different ways, but it just felt a bit too much.

It’s here that the spell over the crowd is finally broken, and the fans cheer for J-Hope as often as the cameras are focused on him.
Park Jin-Young is SMs most celebrated director, and his team proves once again that they can execute both a slick collection of clips and a sedate, sometimes comical story. There are just seven minutes of cuts to the stand-out song The Truth, a ballad that resonates with all the pure, yearning angst one would expect from a group this successful. But there’s also further scope for the story of BTS, with interludes that show the boys grappling with their workloads, getting into itchy internet disputes, and even playfully teasing the audience.
Taeyang hails from Gumi, a town in South Korea infamous for its coastal city colloquially known as Spring of Youth, where the economy is driven by fishing and the seafood industry. BTS filmed at the town after the band was invited by the local government to be the face of their tourism promotion, with their hometown becoming one of the central locations for the film. At 17, BTS are (in)famously polite, but they’ve never been put off by the strange looks of curious onlookers. And yet, even in their comfortable surroundings, they find a way to spice things up. In one clip, they ask to use the bathroom in the middle of a dance rehearsal. In another, they execute a terrible move only to leap from the stage in hilariously humiliating fashion, joking that they were going to be charged by the Ministry of Culture and Sports for ruining the floor. Naturally, the fans couldn’t help but cheer for their beloved idols.
