Revue Technique Peugeot 405 Diesel

Ive always preferred two wheel drive over four wheel drive and as such the Peugeot is a good second choice but I would use a slightly different option list. Even if the drive train, suspension and body are the same as the Golf, if its a light to medium workaday 4×4 I would go for the Peugeot (the Esquelettes are a one owner special for example). I would also take a look at the same model in a Vanden Plas or an Astra. More economical, more comfortable and generally a good workhorse.

The Nargen 4Cyl diesel engine was fitted to the [[Peugeot]] with a cam position sensor in the cylinder head. In this engine, the camshaft is driven at some distance from the crankshaft by a separate timing belt. It is fitted with a low pressure fuel pump and an electronic control unit. The engine is fitted with a twin-scroll turbocharger.

The new 3.6 and 4 cylinders (codes ending in HC) are more powerful than in the older models but their durability has been reduced, and as with the new 2.5L model, the 2.0L Peugeot is available with a V6.

The Hartge motor is a 1.8L supercharged engine with dual twin-scroll turbos, and is used with the Peugeot 405 and 500 series. Both of the turbos with the result of new capacity and power. It will now require a specific maintenance program to ensure maximum operating lifespan. The output is 175 kW (240 hp) at 4,000 rpm and 310 Nm of torque at 1,800 rpm.

The Peugeot is the lowest priced car of the group. Consequently, it uses the engine of the second generation Peugeot (see above). Its similar to the original car but it has a new exhaust system.

this peugeot has a long engine evolution, with two major models and a few very small updates. for example, some models have 1.4 or 1.6 petrol engines while some have 1.6 diesel. but there are no differences between them. you can use the same service and repair manual with each of them, and they are pretty much identical. let’s start by looking at the 1.6 diesel model. this is the one that comes with the most variants. you can get a petrol version, but it’s different enough to warrant a separate manual. the four-cylinder 1.6 diesel engine is more powerful than the 1.4, and is available with either turbo or direct injection. the major engine evolution comes between the 1.4 and 1.6 models. the 1.4 uses an 8v engine, while the 1.6 uses a 16v.
