thanks to a few guides from the internet, i have managed to get my huawei e3260-451w modem to work in wi-fi hotspot mode on macos sierra 10.12.4. in order to do this, i needed to remove the ios device that was previously used to connect to the mobile broadband modem, and that was then connected to the modem using the huawei mobile partner software.

to begin with, download the huawei mobile partner tool, which is only available for huawei devices. then, install it by double-clicking on the downloaded file. when the installation is completed, launch the huawei mobile partner tool and connect to your mobile broadband modem. if you have a huawei e160 or any other huawei mobile broadband modem, please refer to the section below for detailed steps to get the mobile broadband modem working. if you are using a huawei e3372 / telekom speedstick lte v, you don’t need to follow the steps below, but in order to help you if you are having problems, please refer to the section below for detailed steps to get the mobile broadband modem working.

working with the windows version is a bear. a pain in the ass actually. not only do you have to wait for the “loading” icon to appear but the entire thing hangs. for the most part if you wait long enough you can use it. i had to wait about three or four times before it even started to work. for those who know their way around windows this is not a difficult process. for those who aren’t, it’s not a simple process at all. i spent a long time trying to get it to load. i even tried to use a different usb port. i finally gave up and found a site that had a download ready for me.
update: the windows version no longer works on windows 10. i have not had any luck getting it to work. i tried to get it to work on a windows 10 vm but i could not get it to work. it still works with windows 7 and older.
