I have been experimenting with VMware workstation. When I autohide the toolbar at the top, it leaves a 1 pixel sliver. While this is functional, my OCD is bugging me. Is there a way to totally hide the toolbar?
Took me a little searching to find the answer to this because I didn’t want to change the position of my screens. If you go to Edit > Preferences > Display > Uncheck “Show toolbar edge when unpinned in full screen” you’ll be all set!
The full screen toolbar can be completely hidden directly via the UI. On Windows, go to Edit > Preferences > Display and uncheck “Show toolbar edge when unpinned in full screen”. (Doing so will write pref.fullscreen.toolbarPixels = “0” to your %APPDATA%\VMware\preferences.ini file.)
Entering “Exclusive Mode” also will completely hide the full screen toolbar. (Exclusive Mode additionally will force most keyboard shortcuts to go to the guest instead of allowing them to be intercepted by the host.)

The first thing you should do is determine which way is broken because they are controlled separately. Many years ago I wrote a program to identify Windows hooks. One hook I used to find that often causes trouble with other applications is the WH_CBT hook. As it happens, today I was using VMware Workstation and the host-to-guest clipboard just wouldn’t stay working more than a few seconds after run-in-background and restart. I used my program to scan the host desktop for hooks and killed all programs that used WH_CBT hooks. After that host-to-guest started working again. Through the process of elimination I’ve found a 100% reproducible disconnect on host-to-guest by opening Windows Firewall on the host (wf.msc which runs from mmc.exe). It sets a WH_CBT hook:

Unfortunately lots of programs set WH_CBT and not all of them do it properly, even Microsoft. The best advice I can give you for Windows 10 is if all of a sudden host-to-guest stops working repeatedly it may be some other program that you have open that set a hook that is actually the cause and NOT VMware. What you observe with VMware may actually be a symptom of more serious problem of a lazy hook in a different unrelated program.

Experienced it right now on Windows 7 64bit as Host and Guest, VMWare Workstation 9. The solution on my side: The service VMware Workstation Server was set to start manually on the host. After starting this service (and configuring it to start automatically) copy and paste worked normally again between host and guest.
In this configuration having the Remote Desktop window NOT fullscreen generally enables the clipboard to work. When it is fullscreen and I switch back and forth often that is when the clipboard will fail.
I’ve just upgraded a PC to an intel I9 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900H 2.50 GHzCompared to an older I7 the guests appear to run a lot slower. Looking at this further it seems that VMWARE Workstation is running on the E cores not the P cores. The performance is extremely slow. I cannot see a way of getting Workstation Pro to utilise the P cores.

I previously had Archlinux on my Host and with that, and VMware Workstation, the VM run at pretty much native speed. I could put it into Fullscreen and not even notice, its an VM. I could watch YouTube videos in 4K fluent, games worked fine, everything just fine.
This is the result of one Boot + Shutdown directly after the successfull boot. I noticed that the Windows loading animation bubbles, the circle, constantly change speed. They are sometimes slow, but sometimes they circle with the 10x speed or so.
I typed this into the run command and rebooted my laptop. i opened up the vmware.log again and it still says Monitor Mode: ULM. Is the log file update every time VMWare is opened, because maybe I’m seeing the previous log before I did the bcdedit.

Although I followed all those steps my VM still ran in ULM. After a while I saw that the windows feature Windows Hypervisor Platform was installed. After uninstalling and rebooting it worked for me. Please note that in my case all the network settings in the virtual network editor were lost and had to be setup again (took me just 5 minutes).

I’ve given it a few days but nothing changes when I try downloading the latest VMWare Workstation Pro for personal use. I kept getting the same message “Account Verification is Pending” for months. There seems to be a bug on the Broadcom website. Nobody in support wants to acknowledge this problem. I finally realized if I get to the download by the wrong way the option to Agree to the Terms and Conditions is simply missing!!! Unless the box is checked you get the message Account Verification is Pending. However, you can download the Workstation Pro if you follow specific steps I saw in a response a month ago.
